Signs of Heroin abuse

Like most illicit drugs, the substance comes with a variety of different behaviors that users will exhibit after gaining an addiction. Users will experience the common effects, such as: continuing to use the substance despite the problems it causes, attempting and failing to quit, cravings, and increased tolerance to the heroin after extended usage. Heroin comes with a unique effect called “dope sickness” when those who have used the drug begin to experience withdrawal from it.

If an individual who uses heroin begins to experience an overdose, they can expect to see some visible symptoms. Some of these symptoms of heroin overdose may include slow breathing, blue lips, and fingernails, cold damp skin, shaking, vomiting or gurgling noises, and some may enter a coma.

In the absolute worst case, the slowed breathing and heart rate caused by the drug’s effects can lead to death. If you suspect an overdose on heroin please call for medical emergency help immediately.

2018 data shows that every day, 128 people in the United States die after overdosing on opioids. That calculates out to 46,720 people a year that die from opioid overdose.
